How to make Instant "Beggar's" Noodles
This is one of the tastiest ways of dressing up your instant ramen and was a staple for me during university. I still like to make it from time to time for reasons of nostalgia or having blown all my money on booze that month.
Begin cooking your instant ramen as per the packet instructions.
Whilst still a little hard ("al dente", if there is such a thing for instant ramen) turn off the heat and strain the soup away into a bowl to keep aside. Drain the noodles thoroughly.
Put the dry noodles in a bowl and mix in sesame oil, kecap manis and chilli sauce to taste.
Garnish with anything - flaked seasoned chicken, fried onions, chopped green onions or crushed cashew nuts work well. Serve with the soup on the side.

MeltingWok saysooh, you prolly have tried Indomie - Mee Goreng, a dry variant of the instant noodle ? My god, your recipe sounded like one of Malaysia/SG's hawker stalls type of Mee Goreng - stir-fried instant noodles ! Yummos ! :) I used ABC kecap manis a lot. Which brand do you use, by the way ? haha, I did a 101 instant noodle post couple days back, ramen does brings back lotsa school days, isn't it ? :)

ted saysIf you are looking for a kecap manis substitute, in the States there is a brand of sweet soy sauce called Yoshida's that I think would probably work. We have some in the house so I'll give it a shot!
-
yongfook saysthanks ted - actually some people have been asking me for American substitutes for kecap manis so I'll tell them to try Yoshida's.

mishmash saysi managed to get my hands on a bottle of abc kecap manis when i was in boston, lugged it all the way back to oswego just so i can have indomie style noodles. that was probably the reason why my bag was overweight at the airport but it was too precious for me to leave it behind... anyways, i usually use the packet seasoning, kecap manis, some oyster sauce, fried onions, onion oil, white pepper and alilbitof soy sauce. no chili sauce so i use chili powder or chili flakes instead. sigh, i want indomie's thai flavored noodles...
